Mortals:Fey

The Quill already spent a season each on the ‘civilized’ people including: dwarves, elves, urchins (smalfolk) and orcs; along with humans. There are other mortal beings across the land. Mortals are considered to be sentient people who have a finite existence and are subject to death: they are not immortal. Follow the posts this season and the mortals tag to learn more about other sentient beings of Taluma and fantasy settings in general. Note: the classifications of the people of Taluma are different than the ‘monster types’ in core rules.

The beings collectively known as the fey are uncanny, preternatural people considered to be spirits of the natural world. Fey beings include: bullywug, centaur, dryad, pixie, satyr, sprite, will-o’-wisp. Among the fey are also an entire classification called hexen who are large enough in variety and population to have their own entry.

Fey of Taluma

As protectors of wildlands and the natural world, they are tied to the goddess Eosta. The first fey are said to have been the children of Eosta and elves, though some fey claim Stel is their grandsire making them the children of two gods. As at least partially of divine origin, they straddle the line between mortal and immortal, the natural and the preternatural.

Fey beings are independent and capricious. They tend to not be either good or evil and are rarely lawful with chaotic and neutral skewed alignments prevailing among them. It is thought there are hundreds of thousands, even millions of them - enough to rival human population if gathered on Eost, but most live in their own realm, a parallel plane, called the Feywild. There are doorways, gates, between our realm and theirs that open at special locations, times, or events. At those junctions, the fey can pass back and forth willingly. They may visit our plane for a time, but most weary of it and want to return home. They may stay in our realm out of obligation (such as guarding a sacred site), love, or anger—as beings of powerful emotions, they are drawn to things that make them feel strongly.
