Expanded Rules: Heroic Inspiration

In the Expanded Rules feature, we will explore adaptations of existing rules: tweaks or additions to add flavor to your Taluma (or any other) campaign. In this entry, we will take a look at Heroic Inspiration which usually only has one use.

In the Core Rules, if you have Heroic Inspiration, you can expend it to reroll any die immediately after rolling it, and you must use the new roll. This is very helpful, but also not very, well, Inspirational. Here are some suggestions on other ways that you could allow players to use their characters’ Heroic Inspiration point.

  • Get an Extra Action

  • Damage: Do the max damage on an attack. (on a Critical Hit the max can only be done on the original damage, not the extra dice from the Critical)

  • Ignore Resistance to your attack damage type

  • Conditions: Ignore or Remove a Condition your character suffers

  • Short Rest: gain the benefit of a Short Rest

Player Ingenuity

In the end, it is up to the DM to decide what they will allow, but put it in the players’ hands. Encourage them to make a suggestion on a heroic action that could benefit from their Inspiration.
